Publisher: London: The Grolier Society, 1903-1906., 1906. LIMITED EDITION to 1000 copies of which this is number 65. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall . Complete in 13 volumes with replaced 2  volumes from another set. The first nine volumes by famous French Egyptologist, Gaston Maspero (1846-1916), treat of Egypt and the ancient Near East to the conquest of Alexander the Great. The last three volumes (X, XI, XII) by S. Rappoport deal with the Ptolemaic Period (330 B.C.) down to the present time. A thirteenth volume is "History of Egypt in the Light of Recent Discovery". Containing over 1200 color plates and illustrations, and with hand-colored frontispiece to each volume. Finely bound in 3/4 brown morocco with gilt titles and decoration to spine, gilt border to boards, raised bands, marbled endpapers, top edges gilt, others toned and untrimmed. Internally clean. An impressive set in near fine condition.
