Full leather with new spine and original board. Illustrated with frontispiece and engraved title showing six images, 3 small woodcuts within the text and 1 plate to the end of the last section.
The pages and plates are clean and undamaged. An excellent copy of this famous treatise seeking to prove the actual existence of real witchcraft. Joseph Glanvill (1636-1680) first published 'Some Philosophical Considerations Touching the Being of Witches and Witchcraft' in 1667.

The credulousness of Glanvill, along with Meric Causabon and Henry More was derided by John Webster in his Displaying of Supposed Witchcraft of 1677. Henry More responded by republishing Glanvill's work, adding much of his own material, in 1681, quickly followed by various other editions.
The book strongly influenced Cotton Mather and was referred to at the Salem witch trials. His own Wonders of the Invisible World (1693) was largely modeled after this book and its arguments. The book is also famous for the telling of the Demon Drummer of Tedworth, an early poltergeist story.
